Happy
New Year! We’re off to a great start with lots of hard work done of
the break and lots of exciting plans and ideas for the new year.
First off, Talk & Tinker Tuesday is back on 1/7 from 6-9,
so bring along a project to work on, look through our community
supplies (LEDs, fabric, electrical components & more) to get
inspired (or help us sort them), or just check out the new space and
chat for a bit.
Then its Mending Mondays on 1/13 from 6-8 ,
this time with a focus on repair and mending of woolens. So bring a
favorite sweater, comfy socks, or other cozy item in need of some
attention and learn how to fix those darn moth holes and snags, or just
stop by to say hi and check it out! Please arrive promptly to be sure
you’ll have time to work on your repair.
And another Talk & Tinker on 1/14 from 6-9, where we’re going to be looking at locksport and lockpicking, and making your own tools from reclaimed and found items. No experience is necessary but we also have some challenging locks for anyone who’s already had a lot of practice. And if you just want to come in and check out the space or work on a different project, that’s fine too.
We’ve been continuing our work setting up the space and things are really coming together. There’s pegboard up behind the long workbench to get tools out of the bins and in view for quick access and the table that will hold our CNC router is almost done being built. We’ve added to our available tools including a substantial collection of sockets and wrenches, a knife sharpening kit, a paper cutter, more sewing accessories, and more. If there’s a particular tool or supply you’re looking for when you’re using our space, just ask, and if we don’t have it we’ll add it to the list of possible future additions. Based on some feedback from our initial events, we’ve rearranged things a bit to move the storage back and bring the table from the window toward the center of the room so it’s no longer isolated from the other work areas. Hopefully this will help with the flow of the space and make things more usable, but if you have any other feedback or input, we’re always happy to hear from you.
So where is this space? We’re in suite 044 on the ground floor of Eastworks, right below Local Burger. The easiest way to get in, especially if you’re carrying anything, is around the back through the door in the mural wall, then down the ramp, zig left and zag right, go a little ways down the hall and you’ll find us (don’t worry, we’ve put up signs to help lead the way). If you’re driving, turn off Pleasant St onto Putnam Ct, go down the hill to the left and park in any of the spots away from the building. Where to park
Do you have an idea for a workshop you’d like to present, a theme you’d like to see, or anything you can think of that we could do with our new space, let me know at this email, @MakerBill on Discord, or in person at an upcoming event and we’ll see what we can come up with.
And finally, membership signups will be opening soon, so details will be coming soon. We’re really excited about this next step and are doing our best to make it both affordable and valuable to support the space by becoming a member, so stay tuned!
Be safe and keep making things!
